Search for “silk scarf top” in 2026 and you will see why this look is back: it is the fastest way to turn one square of silk into an actual garment. Google’s own year-in-search notes put silk scarf as a top at a ten-year high. You do not need a sewing machine. You need a 90 cm square silk scarf, two knots, and five minutes.

Every Wenzi square starts as original artwork — painted on paper in our Toronto studio, then printed on 100% mulberry silk. That is why the print still reads as a real garment when you wear it as a top, instead of a tourist souvenir stretched across a bodice. The paper-to-silk process is the whole point.

Why a 90 cm Square Is the Only Size That Works

A 53 cm pocket square will not cover a chest. A long oblong will not tie behind the neck without looking like a flag. A 90 × 90 cm square is the size the 2026 scarf-top trend is built on: enough fabric for a halter, a bandana bandeau, or a wrap front, and still small enough to pack in a tote. If you own one Wenzi square, you already own the top.

Browse the full 90 cm square collection before you start — botanical prints sit quietly under a blazer; denser narrative prints (animals, carnival) are the ones people photograph.

The Halter Top

This is the search term that exploded: silk scarf halter. It is also the most secure of the no-sew methods.

  1. Lay the square face down. Fold it once diagonally into a triangle.
  2. Hold the long folded edge across your chest, just above the bust, point hanging down your back.
  3. Tie the two ends of that long edge behind your neck — a square knot, not a bow. Tighten until the front sits where a halter neckline should.
  4. Reach behind, take the remaining two corners (the point of the triangle, plus whatever extra you have), and tie them at your lower back.
  5. Tug the front drape so the artwork sits on the bodice, not in your armpit.

Coverage is modest. Pair it with high-waisted trousers or a midi skirt, not low-rise denim. The Blossom Birds square centres a garden across the chest; Carnival Wonderland A is the louder, double-sided option — reverse it and you have a second top.

The Bandana Top

If “halter” is summer evening, bandana top is daytime. You fold the square into a wide band and wear it as a bandeau. Same 90 cm scarf. Different silhouette.

  1. Fold the square in half, then in half again, until you have a band about 16–20 cm wide. Keep the most interesting part of the artwork on the outside.
  2. Centre that band across your chest.
  3. Cross the ends behind your back, bring them forward, and tie at the side or the front. A small safety pin on the inside seam stops a slip if you are dancing.

This is the cousin of the bandana belt — same fold, worn higher. Deep palettes read more “finished garment” in this narrow format. Try Moonlit Menagerie A or Porcelain.

Two Extra Ties Worth Knowing

Wrap-front halter

Hold the scarf behind your back by the top two corners. Cross them over the chest, tie behind the neck, then tie the bottom corners at the waist. It looks like a bought top. The Arboreal Reverie square — greens and a red border — is the one we reach for when the invitation says “garden” or “gallery.”

One-shoulder

Triangle fold, one corner over the left shoulder, opposite corner under the right arm, knot at the shoulder. Asymmetric, photographed constantly, slightly less secure than the classic halter — add the pin.

What to Wear With a Scarf Top in 2026

  • High-waisted trousers or a long skirt. The top is the statement; the rest should be quiet.
  • A trench, open. This is how the look leaves the house in a North American October. We wrote a full guide to silk with a trench coat.
  • The same square as a belt later. Take the top off, fold it into a band, thread it through jeans. See the bandana belt guide.
  • A blazer for anywhere with air conditioning. The silk still shows at the neckline.

Fabric Notes (So It Does Not Slip)

  • Mulberry silk twill holds a knot. Satin-backed poly will not.
  • A heavyweight double-sided square — Forest Circus or the Woodland Bear — stays put in a breeze and shows a second artwork when the back of the halter flips.
  • If you are between sizes, 90 cm still works; you just tie with less leftover tail.

Start with one square. The 90 cm collection is the wardrobe. Free shipping to the US and Canada from Toronto.
