Fall Fashion 2026: Silk Scarves with Coats, Trenches and Knitwear

Updated October 2026. Fall is when a silk scarf stops being optional. Wool and gabardine need a band of colour at the face; a 90 cm square does that without the bulk of a knit. 2026’s two autumn searches to actually follow: silk scarf with a trench coat, and the bandana belt on weekends.

With a trench

With knitwear

Over a turtleneck, keep the scarf in a narrow band so it does not fight the knit. Under a crew neck, let a long scarf hang like a second collar. Long scarves earn their keep here.

At the waist, not the neck

Indoor summer (offices, restaurants)

October heating is erratic. A square at the neck or a long scarf on the shoulders is the layer you can take off. If it is still warm enough, the same square is a scarf top under an open trench.
